About the event

Join us for a special day with four esteemed international teachers of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden: Claire Elouard, Colin Campbell, Jhon Kwano and Satish Kumar.

Each of these respected elders brings an important message for our times, offering insights on how to connect deeply with the energy of nature, lessons from indigenous knowledge and the wisdom of living with elegant simplicity while cultivating unconditional love for the Earth.

Guided by the theme 'Awakening of Memory', which underscores KFBG’s 70th anniversary celebrations, this one-day event presents the rare opportunity of these elders not only gathered together for the first time, but also at the sacred mountain of Kwun Yum Shan.

The day features individual sessions with each teacher, combined with shared meals and quiet moments in nature, and concludes with a dialogue among the elders on the theme of Awakening of Memory.

Morning Activities:

Satish Kumar – Meditation and Radical Love Talk on the Summit of Kwun Yum Shan

Engage in a profound meditation session led by Satish Kumar, focusing on radical love and its transformative power in our lives. Experience the serenity of the summit as you reflect on your connection to the Earth.

Claire Elouard – Walking with Trees at KFBG

Join Claire for a guided walk among the trees, where you’ll learn to listen to their wisdom and understand their vital role in our ecosystem. Discover the tranquility that nature offers as you connect deeply with these ancient beings.

Jhon Kwano – Blessing with Song and Dance at KFBG

Participate in a vibrant and joyful blessing ceremony with Jhon, filled with song and dance. Celebrate the rhythms of life and the interconnectedness of all beings, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Colin Campbell – Storytelling Under the Banyan Tree

Gather with Colin as he shares captivating stories beneath the welcoming banyan tree at KFBG. Through storytelling, he connects us with ancestral wisdom, reminding us of our place in the wider universe.

The flow of the day involves taking part in your choice of one of the four different activities with the elders, from the bottom of KFBG all the way to the top of Kwun Yum mountain. After the morning activities have concluded, we all gather for lunch at Food Hub, to enjoy vegan sustainable food together. After lunch, we have the unique chance to hear these four elders in dialogue for the first time and on the theme Awakening of Memory. They will exchange experiences and inspiration on our deep connection with nature, indigenous wisdom and how to love the Earth unconditionally, nourished by the different experiences from the morning.

KFBG 70th Anniversary – Awakening of Memory

The ‘Awakening of Memory: A Day with Four Elders’ is part of the celebrations marking the special occasion of KFBG’s 70th anniversary. It integrates a wider series of activities curated to deepen our connection with the Earth.

Guided by the theme Awakening of Memory, these gatherings call us to remember our place within the greater community of beings. This anniversary is an invitation to return, to remember and to share the stories that bind us to this living landscape of KFBG’s mountain and the Earth itself. It is about how we live in the present and the future we shape together – deepening the dialogue between people and nature, and carrying this shared legacy forward in an ever-changing world.
